Fraternal twin sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are fashion designers and businesswomen who got their start on a little show called "Full House" in the late 1980s. They were born June 13, 1986, in Sherman Oaks, Calif. In 1987 at just nine months old the Olsens took turns playing the role of Michelle Tanner in the ABC sitcom. They were involved with the series until its cancellation in 1995, which coincided with their parent's divorce.
During the same time the Olsen twins released several television and direct-to-DVD films, such as "Double, Double, Toil and Trouble" and "The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley." The sisters' first big-screen film was "It Takes Two" (1995), co-starring Steve Guttenberg and Kirstie Alley. They released their second feature film, "New York Minute," in 2004.
The twins also starred in several TV series that didn't last past one season: "Two of a Kind," "So Little Time," and the animated program "Mary-Kate and Ashley In Action!"
During the late 1990s and early 2000s the Olsens released several products under their names, including books, clothing, magazines, fragrances and dolls. In 2004 at age 18 they became co-presidents of production company Dualstar, launching their business careers. In 2007, they were listed as the eleventh wealthiest women in entertainment with an estimated net worth of $100,000,000.
Mary-Kate and Ashley also have several fashion lines, including The Row, Olsenboye and Elizabeth & James. In March 2012 the sisters decided to quit acting completely and focus on their fashion careers. "Beastly" (2011) was Mary-Kate's final acting project; Ashley's last role was a bit part in 2009's "The Jerk Theory."
In 2004, Mary-Kate went to rehab to treat an eating disorder. She made headlines in 2012 for dating older man Olivier Sarkozy ( French President Nicolas Sarkozy's brother), who is 20 years her senior. She also dated Heath Ledger and Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos. Ashley reportedly dated Lance Armstrong, who is 15 years older than she is. Ashley also dated actor Justin Bartha for two years until they split in 2011. Their younger sister Elizabeth is also an actress.
